Dashaway eRC Tesla Roof Camper (coolest camper in town?)

Dashaway eRC from £23,400 inc vat. + car.   This is an electric Roof Camper for a Tesla designed and produced by Wheelhome, Brentwood, U.K.

Note: car needs Tesla Roof Rack and Tesla Tow bar fitted.

The Dashaway eRC creates a new class of its own as it offers campervan facilities but in the form of a removable/demountable roof camper that is exclusively for what is probably the best/most efficient/cheapest to run, electric car around, with the best Supercharging network: The Tesla Model 3.   Long Range (Dual Motor) model recommended but standard range (single motor) also available on a new or used Tesla Model 3.  As a guide expect to pay around £20,000 to £24,000 for a 2 or 3 year old example from Tesla.  New from circa £40,000+.

The Dashaway eRC is demountable if you wish, and so the car reverts to a “normal” Tesla Model 3.  The car can even be parked underneath the Demount Frame on your driveway, or in the garage.  Two berth and two travelling seats whilst fitted to the Tesla.  Just 1.80 metres high and 4.75 metres long.

Unlike traditional Roof Top Tents (RTT) that typically just offer a bed, this is a Roof Camper designed for proper touring with perhaps a new location every night as it is such a breeze to set-up and take-down (think 2 mins).

When sitting inside on the comfortable seats with reclining backrests, it feels just like a Wheelhome campervan – which is a really good thing!

Dashaway eRC offers a serious alternative to even other electric Wheelhome campers, with pretty much the same facilities and similar internal space.  Fully electric cooking (Induction hob, oven, microwave/grill, Airfryer etc) with off-grid potential of multiple weeks.  Sink with drainer, fresh water, compressor fridge, powerful inverter with Lithium battery – even a locker to take a Porta Potti if you wish.  Access into the boot is from inside the car by folding down the rear seats and pulling-forwards 1 metre-long plastic storage drawers.

We expect production to commence early 2026 – so for next season so come and talk to us at the Norfolk show where we’ll have one on display with our own Tesla Model 3 that will have just returned from a 3,500+ miles/one month testing in Iceland.  This will take our comprehensive testing to around 6,000 miles.

Range tests at 60mph so far have produced 260 miles in cooler temps to 298 miles in warmer temps. Tesla's wonderful and reasonably-priced charging network is unrivalled.  1.8m high so easily garageable.
Facilities include: Standing headroom at the back, seating for two, cooking and large double bed - or setup as a single.
The access steps lock-on across the back and our Sheltie Isla, has learn't to climb them! see the Youtube video below!
Sink with drainer, water in portable 10 litre jerry can. Fold-down worktops.
Handy shelf above feet end of double bed for things, or a small dog...alternative seating fabric options will be available.
Double bed, leaves sufficient standing space and access to Porta Potti toilet (didn't expect that did you!)

Electric cooking with induction hob, mini oven and kettle - all available off-grid

Also available as an ultra-lightweight (just 300kgs) towable Camper called Dashaway eCT (Camper Trail), tow with virtually any small electric or petrol/diesel car.  The same layout and equipment as Dashaway eRC but in towable form!

Photos show prototype #1 in a somewhat rainy Lake District…

We expect production to commence early 2026 – so for next season but come and talk to us at the Norfolk show where we’ll have the Roof Camper version on a Tesla.
